Here is one of my latest acquisitions, a Vostok Amphibia in the 670 case. A couple of months ago seven different models popped up on the Meranom website. I am not going to go into too much detail about the case size etc., there is a more in depth description of the 670 case at my post about the Amphibia SE 670370S that I acquired last year.

There appear to be six watches in the 670 range which became available in Spring / Summer 2017. These all have what I would describe as classic Amphibia dials. There are three different black Amphibia dials and white and black Scuba Dude variations. This model is the only one with a little bit of colour on the dial. It is fitted with the automatic 2415 31 jewel Vostok movement and is water resistant to 200 metres.

The whole 670 range is fitted with a new type of stainless steel bezel (I am pretty sure I haven’t seen it before). I wasn’t sure about the bezel at first, but it has grown on me. It is a bit chunkier than some of the other Amphibia bezels and has a depth of 4 mms, so appears to be quick thick. The bezel features black numerals at 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 with a white circular marker at the zero mark. It gives the watch a nice bit of presence. If you are reading this blog, you probably know that us Amphibia guys like to swap out the bezels and bezel inserts, however I can’t really think of anything I might swap this for unless it was something with a fairly simple black bezel insert. The other thing of note here is the crown (the top watch in the photograph below).

I am pretty sure it is stainless steel but, in comparison to older crowns, it has much sharper corners a smart, flat machined finish to it. It seems to be a little bigger than the one on the 670 Special edition, although this might just be the flatter edges making it look that way. The strap is a comfortable black silicon strap, both this and the crown are unsigned. The watch features the classic Vostok Amphibia hand set but with a white second hand. The lume is pretty good, I tried to capture this in one of the photographs.

The main reason that I bought the Vostok Amphibia Classic 670927 model was because I really liked the retro dial. It is predominantly a black with a light blue grey / blue colour which looks much better in the flesh, the photos don’t do it justice. It is a colour combination that one sees in quite a few older Amphibia dials. (Edit: In fact is a replica of one of the old dials – check here for a picture of the dial in an old 090 type case). The dial has white blocks of colour to mark the hours (the lume dots sit outside these) and there is little splash of colour in the form of an inverted red triangle at the 12 o’clock marker.

So there you have it. I like the size of the 670 case, it sits well on my 7 1/2 inch wrist and as I mentioned, the new bezel and crown are nice additions. For me, though, this is all about the funky, retro, 1970s dial. Its pretty cool. Would I mod this? Probably not. I might put a dark brown leather strap on at some point, but that’s about it. All for $65.
