Vostok Amphibia Classic 090679

The Vostok Amphibia 090 tonneau style case is probably my favourite of the classic Amphibia case styles, although the Amphibia 150 and 710 “ministry” cases are not far behind. I like the look and size of all of these on my 7 1/2 inch wrist. I have a few 090s already and I hadn’t really bought anything for a while when I saw a new 090 dial become available for purchase, I think in January 2019.

I won’t go into great description of the 090 case, I have done that already, suffice to say the 090679 case has a the mottled / matt style finish and the modern flat ended, unsigned crown. The watch is fitted with the standard Vostok Amphibia case back and Vostok 2416 automatic, mechanical movement. There appear to have been two versions of this watch, one with a white and one with a black date wheel. I went for the version with the black date wheel as I thought it looked just a little bit smarter.

What mainly attracted me to this watch is that the dial is a little different from most of the 090s I have with its black, gold and white colour scheme. The dial is a matt black colour with a slightly textured finish. The hour indices are slightly raised gold coloured bars, I hope you can see this is in the picture below

The dial features good lume dots outside of the hour indices, there are simple gold lines for the minute markers and the date window is at 3 o’clock. The dial features the old “B” Vostok logo and “Amphibia” in Cyrilic beneath the 12 o’clock and “Automatic” 200m and “Made in Russia” towards the bottom of the dial. The Vostok Amphibia Classic 090679 features the standard Amphibia hand set with the hour and minute hands in gold and the second hand in white. I think, unless it is a reflection, the chapter ring is also gold in colour, which is a nice addition, matching the hands and the markings of the dial. The 090679 has the classic 090 style bezel design and this seem to be a little bit improved over those from a few years ago. From the side the bezel is a bit thicker and chunkier than the old bezel and grooved markings and numbers of the bezel are much more substantial (wider, larger and easier to read). The bezel also has white markings through 12 to 3 o’clock which ties in nicely with the white seconds hand.

I purchased my watch from komandirskie.com in early 2019. At time of writing (February 25th 2019) the full price there is 4200, approximately £50. A very good price for this watch. I think I will have to find a nice leather strap for this one.
