Vostok Amphibia 120512

I haven’t really done any modding recently, I don’t know why. I call this Vostok Amphibia 120512 mod, but really it is only a very light mod with a Dave Murphy bezel (coin edge, insert style, bezel V01050) and a new Dagaz insert added (called the blue curveball insert at their website). I certainly do not have the capability of some of the other guys who are modding hands to fit their Vostok Amphibias. Check out ThePossumKing’s tutorial at Watchuseek and you’ll see what I mean. I tempted to try but the last time I fiddled with some hands on a Vostok I ended up going through about 3 sets.

This is my second Vostok Amphibia in the 120 case. I also have the Vostok Amphibia 120360NK Special Edition which I purchased from Meranom. That is the one with the rather pretty orange faced sandwich dial and clean bezel. I haven’t got round to adding any pictures or review of this yet, but it is next on my list of things to do.

Vostok Amphibia 120512 Mod

The Vostok Amphibia 120 features Vostok’s 2415B mechanical automatic movement with 31 jewels and a 33 hour power reserve. The stainless steel case, with screw down crown and and case back is 41mm across without the crown, 48mm from lug to lug and 12mm deep. The lug width is 18mm which I sometimes worry can look a little bit too narrow for my 8 inch wrist, but in this case the watch and strap seems to sit at quite a nice size. To my eye the 120 case seems to be just a little bit larger in size than the classic Amphibia 420 case (the 420 has a 39mm diameter and it looks a little bit shorter lug to lug to me).

The Vostok Amphibia 120512 features a black dial with white markings and the standard Vostok Amphibia hand set. However, in this case, the seconds hand is a nice blue colour. It is this that made me want to match it with this particular Dagaz insert. I have seen this bezel insert described as 1/4 teal and black and it has a bright lume pip at 12 o’clock. It is a really nice colour blue and black combination and which compliments the seconds hand colour. I like this look. There is another 50/50 blue black bezel that I was considering which I might swap over when I fancy a bit of a change.

This particular model comes with a nice and comfortable black rubber strap, unfortunately it seems to be the type that picks up every bit of dust and lint. I might have to switch this for something else in the near future!
