Vostok Komandirskie Red Star

Vostok Komandirskie Red Star

I am much more of a Vostok Amphibia kind of guy but I do have a few Vostok Komandirskie watches in my collection. I don’t know why, I just find the Amphibias more pleaseing to my eye I guess.  This one of my Komandirskie watches, a vintage Vostok Komandirskie Red Star. I picked this up on Ebay, from a seller who just so happened to be about 10 miles away from me. Small world eh? What attracted me to this watch was the gold colour of the watch body (I don’t really have any other watches this colour) and the watch face is a really pretty golden / brown sunburst colour with some very nice looking cracking on the dial. The gold-coloured metal indices are slightly raised.

The Vostok Komandirskie Red Star dial features the B for Bostok logo with Komandirksie written underneath the 12 o’clock position  and a date window at 3 o’clock. Above the 6 o’clock position it says 17 Jewels, above this is a small red star and at the very bottom something about this watch being made in the CCCP, all in cyrilic, of course, which I guess would put this as late 1980s vintage.

Size-wise the watch is approximately 39mm in diameter, 43mm diameter including the crown, 45mm lug to lug and 12mm think. The lug width is 18mm. The case is Komandirskie Type 34x. This Komandirskie watch is fitted with the manually winding 2414A movement, Vostok’s rugged workhorse movement, screw-down crown at 3 o’clock. The case back is the usual sea with the rays of the the rising sun and a bird flying. The gold colour for Vostok watches is a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating. This watch currently sits on a rather plain, brown leather strap, the strap the seller supplied in fact, but I think it kind of suits it. The watch case is in pretty good condition for a watch 30 years old and the cracking on the dial, mentioned above, looks great. One of the “dressier” Russian watches in my collection.
